Thinking of Adopting a Kitten?

There's nothing more appealing than kittens that's for sure and it's easy to rush in and get one or more without really thinking it through. A kitten can be a lot of work to begin with, there's an element of training involved! And all the main expense with kittens is in the first few months. We are often asked to take in young cats between 6mths and 12mths who were perhaps impulse bought as kittens - sometimes with kittens of their own in tow! We would always advise investing in a good book or spending some time on the internet making sure it's the right pet for you and your family before you rush in. Our fosterers are always able to offer advice on adopting kittens too, so please give us a call.

Consider Adopting Two

Very young kittens really benefit from going to new homes in pairs. There's nothing more fun to watch than two kittens play-fighting and cuddling up together. They get comfort from each other in the strange new surroundings and can grow up lifelong friends. They don't have to be siblings, kittens will always adapt well to others and you may often meet more than one litter happily living together in their foster home. Look out for those kittens listed in pairs and make two very happy tails...

All the big financial outlay with kittens is in the first months of getting them home. Before they can go outside they should have the routine vaccinations recommended by your vet. These can be done from 12wks of age and will protect your munchkins from things like Feline Leukaemia and Flu virus. By 24wks it will be time for neutering and, if you're adopting from us, we will insist this is done. The chances are your kitten will have been the result of a cat not being spayed in time and we don't want to continue that cycle! There are schemes in place to help with neutering costs if you need them - please give us a call and ask for advice. Until they are 6mths old, kittens should be wormed every two weeks. After that they can have the three-monthly adult wormers. Again we can advise you on this and other healthcare issues when you call. Now all that remains is for you to meet the kittens we have available for adoption - now that's the best part......
