We have always had a soft spot for half wild bunnies and so couldn't resist the offer of taking on 3 siblings that had been with Animal Concern for three years. They are delightful and will tame up fine in time. Our last half wild bunny took a year to come round but is now such a baby she's made it all worthwhile. She's tamer than most people's pet bunnies now. We also never refuse a wriggly or bitey bunny as we've had 100% success with these. So we added Tilly, alleged biter, and Tamsin to our gang. Tamsin is just like one of our old girls was when we got her 2 years ago, avoiding eye contact and squirming when handled. That will only take months to resolve and then we'll have a devoted bunny on our hands. Our original wriggler, Prudence, now has a reputation for giving good cuddles to us and visitors alike!
A SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT A SPECIAL DEGU
When we got the four girls from you it was obvious that little Stumpy felt she'd landed in Heaven and was an only child (apart from the other 5)! I think it is worth letting people know how adorable Degus can be. They are not always as affectionate as our Henry has been from the start but all are to a degree. Stumpy soon renamed herself Little Chicken as she used to run into my hand and just roost like a little Chicken! She would rather sit in my hood or pocket whilst I fed and checked everyone than be on the floor. When she began to age and being so tiny, feel the cold, she came to live in the house. As she was old and had arthritis she didn't mind being kept in a Degu cage after having the run of a shed and cared not that the cats slept in a hammock above her cage as long as we picked her up every time we went past and gave her her daily peanut treat. If we even mentioned her name in the kitchen she'd come running and wait eagerly at the door of her cage as she knew her "you time" was about to start. I loved that little mite with all my heart and was devastated when she died quite suddenly one morning after waiting to see us both get up. If any one is ever wondering about rescuing the smaller animals they really should consider a pair of Degus as you can get so much back from them. They are not just spectator pets but love to interact. If one person gives a Degu a home from reading about Little Chicken it will be worth while writing this.
Little Chicken's picture is already on the web site so it would be lovely for us to see a tribute to her too.
