Adopting an animal from us

If you are interested in any of the animals on our website, the first port of call is one of our two co-ordinators. Their numbers are listed to the left or you can email in the first instance with general enquiries. You will be calling them in their homes - we don't have offices! So please be patient if you get an answer machine.
Our co-ordinator will take a few details from you regarding who or what you are interested in and what kind of home you can provide. There is an element of match-making involved as we really want to get the right home for every animal and the right animal for you!
The co-ordinator will then help arrange a visit with the animal/s you are interested in, this may involve giving you a second number to call for one of our fosterers. Once you have met with the fosterer and the animal/s there will be a home check carried out to ensure your home and circumstances are suitable to the pet in question - we are not checking out your carpets or wallpaper!
Other people may also have an interest in the same animal and we simply need to find the right home for it.
This process may not happen overnight depending on your and our fosterers availability but we do our best to get to you in good time.
Following a successful visit, it just remains to have you collect your new friend and complete an adoption form. We will ask for a suggested donation to cover the care of the animal and go towards the work of the charity as a whole.
We may then follow up with a call to check-in and see that everyone has adapted to their new situation - we may even ask for photos! It's always great to have adopters keep in touch.

If you are unable to care for your pet/s for any reason, have come across a stray or abandoned pet or just need some advice regarding re-homing animals, you should contact the main numbers shown on the left in the first instance. We may not always be in a position to help you immediately as our foster homes are often pretty full, but we will add your details to a waiting list and get to you as soon as space becomes available. We may also endeavour to re-home your pet/s while they remain in your care if that is an option.
We will ultimately require you to sign a release agreement, handing the care of the pet/s over to Animal Concern Cumbria.

In an emergency we would also suggest contacting the RSPCA or local dog warden if you need immediate assistance. The numbers are listed to the left.
